BOURBONNAIS, Ill. (Oct. 13, 2016) – Returning to the win column after a pair of tough losses, the North Central College women's tennis team took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play and held on to defeat NAIA foe Olivet Nazarene University, 5-4 on Thursday afternoon at the Snowbarger Athletic Complex.
Opening the afternoon with doubles play, the Cardinal duo of
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor easily defeated Anna Kuechenberg and Erica Matheis, 8-2 at the No. 1 position, while
Isabelle Wostoupal and
Lauren Dvorak fought out a tough 8-6 win over Amanda Everly and Maddie Holdren at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, O'Connor held on to defeat Kuechenberg, 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 2 position, while Forkin cruised past Anna Belschner, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Wostoupal clinched the victory for the Cardinals with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 5 position over Eberly, as North Central improves to 5-5 on the season.
With her win at No. 3 singles, Forkin improves her career record to 58-31 overall, just two singles victories shy of tying the program's all-time wins at different positions record, playing at the No. 2, 3 and 5 positions over the course of her four-year career.
North Central finishes the fall portion of the schedule with a pair of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matches this Saturday, Oct. 15, traveling to Carthage College at 10 a.m., before taking the trip to Carroll University later in the afternoon at 3 p.m.
