Oct. 15, 2016 – The North Central College women's tennis team split at pair of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) duals to end the regular season on Saturday, falling by a 8-1 score at Carthage College in the morning, before ending the conference slate on a high note with a 6-3 win over Carroll University.
One bright spot in the opening match against Carthage (5-3, 4-2 CCIW) was a 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, as the duo of
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor upset Max Mella and Angelica Emmanouil, 8-3.
Carthage went on the win the other two doubles positions, as well as all six singles spots in straight sets to claim the 8-1 victory.
North Central bounced back nicely in the nightcap against Carroll, taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Forkin and O'Connor took down Lauren Miketinac and Alison Lambrecht, 8-4 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2,
Katie Drone and
Marisa Coladipietro defeated Megan Krzewinski and Tiffany Maggioncalda by an identical 8-4 score.
In singles play, Drone took care of Miketinac, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while O'Connor followed with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Krzewinski at No. 2. At the No. 3 spot, Forkin downed Shanna Mogden, 6-3, 6-3, while Coladipietro was victorious by a 6-3, 6-3 score over Lambrecht at the No. 4 position.
North Central will take part in the CCIW Tournament from Oct. 20-22, hosted by Wheaton College at Centre Court in Hanover Park, Ill.
