GRIFFITH, Ind. (Feb. 13, 2016) – Hanging tough with NAIA opponent Roosevelt University, the North Central College men's tennis team claimed three matches on the afternoon but couldn't muster enough momentum late, falling by a 6-3 score.
The Cardinals (2-1) fell behind 2-1 after doubles play, as
Aleksandar Vasic and
Wilbur Williams came away victorious at the No. 2 position over Josh Moller and Serhiy Kiysov, 8-2.
In singles play, the Cardinals were victorious at positions five and six, while the Lakers (4-1) claimed positions one through four. Vasic trailed 9-4 in the third set but fought out a 15-13 thriller over Gerardo Gomez, as the two split the opening sets 6-1, 3-6. At No 6,
Adam Winters clawed back from a set down to defeat Moller in comeback fashion 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. At the No. 4 position, Williams took Christiano Pennisi to a third set and held two match points, but could not close the match out, falling 2-6, 7-5, 10-12.
North Central is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 28, playing host to Webster University at 9 a.m., before taking on Dominican University later in the day at 3 p.m. inside the Res/Rec Center.
