Sept. 21, 2016 – Moved inside the Res/Rec Center due to weather, the North Central College women's tennis team took down Judson University, 6-3 on Wednesday in a non-conference dual, improving to 2-1 on the young season.
The Cardinals (2-1) took a 2-1 lead in the dual after winning each of the first two doubles positions, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor defeated Lauren Saiki and Michaela Pryde, 8-3 at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, the Cardinal combination of
Katie Drone and
Marisa Coladipietro fought off Ellen Binnion and Irina Iacob, 8-4.
In singles play, the Cardinals claimed the first four positions over the Eagles (3-2) to secure the match victory 6-3. Drone set the tone at the No. 1 position with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Saiki, while O'Connor downed Iacob in straight 6-2 sets at the No. 2 spot.
After dropping the opening set 4-6, Forkin completed a 6-3, 10-1 comeback win over Binnion at No. 3, while Coladipietro hung on to defeat Pryde, 7-6, 0-6, 10-1 at the No. 4 position.
North Central returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a pair of matches Augustana College's Lower Campus Courts, taking on the host Vikings in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) mathup at 9 a.m., followed by a non-conference contest against Knox College at 12 p.m.
