ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Sept. 24, 2016) – The North Central College women's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Augustana College Triangular, falling to the host Vikings, 9-0 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup, before taking down non-conference opponent Knox College, 7-2.
The Cardinals (3-2, 1-2 CCIW) struggled to get anything going against the Vikings (6-0, 5-0 CCIW) dropping all three doubles matches to open the day, before the Vikings swept all six singles positions in straight sets.
In the nightcap against Knox (4-8), North Central jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor made quick work of Savannah Sailors and Maddie Schacht, 8-1 at the No. 1 position. At No. 2,
Katie Drone and
Marisa Coladipietro downed Emily Miller and Annaliese McDermott, 8-2.
In singles play, Drone dominated a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Miller at the No. 1 spot, while O'Connor cruised past Schacht in straight 6-0 sets at the No. 2 position. Forkin kept the Cardinals rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sailors at No. 3, while Coladipietro defeated McDermott, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and
Isabelle Wostoupal took care of Clare Colt, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot.
North Central continues CCIW play on Wednesday, Sept. 28, playing host to Elmhurst College with matches slated for 3 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
