Sept. 25, 2016- North Central College freshman
Nikki Banas placed first in the 19-and-under division at the Fighting Illini Triathlon hosted by the Illinois Triathlon Club Sunday.

Banas completed the 300-meter swim, 14.5 mile bike and 5-kilometer run in one hour, ten minutes and 41.8 seconds securing her second first-place win of the season in her division and the second-place finish for the women overall. Banas also improved on her transition times being 20 seconds behind the first-place finisher and on average 50 seconds faster than the third-place finisher.

Less than 6 seconds behind Banas was freshman
Grace Miller with a time of 1:16:10.7. Following Miller with a time of 1:19:58.9 was sophomore
Elizabeth Alvarado. Sophomore
Jennifer Hufnagle was the fourth to cross the line for North Central in 1:20:27.3.

Rounding out the finishers for the Cardinals were senior
Mary Wrobel with a finishing time of 1:23:56.9 and junior
Ashley Eisenmenger who competed for her first finish of the season clocking in a time of 1:24:35.8.
Alvarado, Hufnagle and Wrobel all notched personal best times accounting for improved transition times.

Next up for the Cardinals is the USA Triathlon Eastern Regional Qualifier, which will be held on Oct. 2, in Browns Summit, North Carolina where the Cardinals will have additional opportunities to qualify for nationals.
