Jan. 17, 2017 - North Central College pole vaulter Luke Winder has been named the NCAA Division III National Men's Field Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). 

Winder received the distinction on the strength of his performance in the Cardinals' first meet of the 2017 indoor season, the Grand Valley State University Bob Eubanks Open, on Friday. He won the pole vault competition by clearing a height of 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches (5.30 meters), winning the competition by nearly two feet. His mark makes him the Division III national leader in the event by almost one foot.

Winder has won the Division III indoor and outdoor national championships in the pole vault in each of the past two years.

North Central hosts the Cardinal Opener on Friday at Al B. Carius Track. Competition is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
