Late Comeback Falls Short at North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. (Oct. 3, 2017) –
In the midst of a three match stretch in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play, the North Central College women's tennis team fell behind early at North Park University on Tuesday and were unable to recover, eventually falling 7-2.
 
The Vikings (3-7, 1-5 CCIW) took a commanding 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles positions, as Tiffany Smolik and Reagan Scherpe fought Linn Viuhkonen and Linnea Love to the brink but fell just short 9-8.
 
In singles play, the Cardinals earned pair of victories but ultimately it was too little too late.  Diana Barcelata improved to 8-1 on the season at the No. 1 position, taking down Vilde Olvin in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, while Mackenzie Ferrell defeated McKenzie Harrison, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.
 
North Central (3-6, 1-4 CCIW) travels to defending CCIW Champion Wheaton College on Friday, Oct. 6 with matches slated for 5 p.m. at the Wheaton Tennis Courts.
