Feb. 4, 2017 – The North Central College men's tennis team opened the 2017 spring season on a high note on Saturday evening with a 8-1 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering inside the Res/Rec Center.
MSOE (0-1) scored a 8-5 win at the No. 1 doubles position, but that would prove to be the only win of the afternoon for the Fightin' Engineers, as the Cardinals bounced back with a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
At No. 2,
Aleksandar Vasic and
Alex Kohlmeier cruised past Tyler Haanen and Ryan Runke, while
Tyler Bussell and
Adam Winters teamed up to shut out Michael Korbut and Mason Sauder at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play,
Victor Krueger scored a 7-6, 7-6 win over John Price at the No. 1 position, while
Connor Sass shook off a rough second set to defeat David Chon, 6-0, 1-6, 10-4 at the No. 2 spot.
At No. 3, Vasic fought out a tough 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 win over Tom Smith, before Winters rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Runke at No. 4. Bussell continued the winning ways at No. 5, taking down Haanen, 6-2, 6-3, before
Tyler Haizel completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 victory over Sauder.
North Central returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, traveling to Purdue University-Northwest with matches slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Matchpoint Tennis & Fitness in Griffith, Indiana.
