Mar. 20, 2017- North Central College men's lacrosse defense-man John Fitzgerald has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Athlete of the Week for the fifth week of conference awards in the 2017 season. The most recent announcement was made by the CCIW on Monday.
 
The Winfield, Ill. native was recognized for his defensive presence in North Central's 13-6 win over Alfred State College and 8-7 win over Greensboro College. In the game against Alfred State, Fitzgerald scooped up one ground ball and caused one turnover. Two days later in the contest versus Greensboro, Fitzgerald possessed five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the double overtime win.
 
Fitzgerald along with his teammates on defense led in ground balls, and successful clears in both games.
 
North Central is currently 5-0 in their first season as a program. The Cardinals look to extend that record on Tuesday, Mar. 21 as they face-off against Bethany College in West Virginia at 5 p.m. (ET).
