Apr. 11, 2017 – Despite winning two of three doubles matches, the North Central College men's tennis team could not hang on against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) rival Augustana College, falling 7-2 on Tuesday at the NCC Tennis Courts.
Starting the afternoon with doubles play,
Victor Krueger and
Tyler Haizel teamed up to fight out a 8-5 win over Connor Woolf and Jack Morkin at the No. 2 position. At No. 3,
Connor Sass and
Tyler Bussell took down Nicholas Prabhakar and Jonathan Elsey by an identical 8-5 score to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Unfortunately for North Central, they could not carry that momentum into singles play as the Vikings (10-8, 4-1 CCIW) took all six matches to secure the 7-2 win.
Adam Winters took Scott Daluga to three sets at the No. 5 position, falling 7-6 in the opener before rebounding with a decisive 6-0 win in the second set before suffering a heartbreaking 10-8 loss in the tiebreaker.
North Central (7-4, 1-1 CCIW) returns to the court on Thursday, Apr. 13, playing host to Aurora University with matches slated for 4 p.m.
