Apr. 14, 2017 – Sending the senior class out on a high note, the North Central College women's tennis team finished the season with a 9-0 victory over Aurora University on Friday afternoon, closing the season with a record of 12-7.
North Central cruised to three straight victories, opening the day with doubles competition, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Clare O'Connor made quick work of Micaela Mascha and Mackenzie Smith, 8-1 at the No. 1 position.
At No. 2,
Katie Drone and
Marisa Coladipietro downed Alyssa Brems and Kaily Albrecht, 8-2, while
Emily Adams and
Lauren Dvorak worked an easy 8-1 win over Alex Hultine and Sami Hultine at No. 3.
Forkin and O'Connor finish their careers with 51 doubles wins apiece to rank second on the program's all-time list, just one shy of the all-time record, while O'Connor set a new program record finishing her career with a .600 winning percentage in doubles play, smashing the previous record of .559 set by Alicia DeGrado from 2007-10.
In singles play, Drone cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mascha at the No. 1 position, while O'Connor defeated Smith by an identical 6-1, 6-0 score at No. 2. At No. 3, Forkin defeated Brems, 6-2, 6-0, while Coladipietro shut out Albrecht in straight 6-0 sets at No. 4.
At the No. 5 spot, Adams was victorious over Alex Hultine, 6-2, 6-0, while Dvorak played to a single-set 8-1 win over Sami Hultine as the match was already decided in favor of North Central.
Forkin wraps up her four-year career as the program's all-time wins leader at different positions, racking up a career record of 68-34, while O'Connor sits third on that list with a record of 57-28. Drone's career mark of 46-54 ranks second in wins at the same position, as Drone played exclusively at the No. 1 position her entire four-year career.
The three seniors finish their careers with a combined 171 singles wins and 150 doubles wins over the last four seasons as a Cardinal.
