Apr. 2, 2017 – Relying on the top of the lineup yet again, the North Central College women's tennis team fought off Purdue University Northwest, 5-4 on Sunday afternoon to win their sixth straight contest of the spring season.
North Central (11-6) claimed two of the three doubles positions to take the all important 2-1 lead heading into singles play, as seniors
Clare O'Connor and
Kelsey Forkin teamed up to make quick work of Brooke Foltz and Stella Evers, 8-1 at the No. 1 position, while
Katie Drone and
Marisa Coladipietro defeated Carolina Yepez and Cynthia Chavez-Basu, 8-4 at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, the Cardinals sealed the 5-4 win with straight set victories at each of the top-three positions, including a 6-3, 6-4 win for Drone over Foltz at No. 1.
At the No. 2 spot, Evers was no match for O'Connor, as the senior dominated to the tune of a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Forkin cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Yepez to seasl the win for North Central.
North Central returns to the court on Saturday, Apr. 8, playing host to Webster University with an early 9:30 a.m. start at the NCC Tennis Courts.
