Apr. 24, 2017 – After a pair of tough College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) losses, the North Central men's tennis team returned to the win column with a decisive 7-2 win over Illinois Wesleyan University on Monday, improving to 10-6 on the season.
Beginning the afternoon with singles play, the Cardinals actually secured the win before doubles competition began as
Victor Krueger downed Kurt Meyer, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while
Connor Sass made quick work of Ryan Yoo, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.
At the No. 4 position,
Tyler Haizel cruised past Jimmy Kase, 6-0, 6-1, while
Adam Winters shut out Yash Thacker, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Tyler Bussell defeated Sid Saxena by identical 6-0 sets.
In doubles play, Krueger and Haizel teamed up to take down Kase and Calen Crim at No. 2 by a 8-3 margin, while Bussell and Sass shut down Thacker and Saxena, 8-0 at the No. 3 spot. At No. 1, Vasic and
Alex Kohlmeier fought back from a 4-3 deficit to take a 5-4 lead over Meyer and Yoo, but the pair couldn't hang on down the stretch, ultimately falling 8-5.
North Central continues a stretch of four matches in five days tomorrow, playing host to Wheaton College with matches slated to begin at 4 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
