The North Central College men's tennis team ran into the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) standings leader Wheaton College on Tuesday, falling 8-1 to the 12th-ranked team in the central region.
 
The Thunder (12-7, 5-0 CCIW) claimed all three doubles positions to start the afternoon, as Tyler Haizel and Victor Krueger fought back from a 4-3 deficit to take a 5-4 lead and traded breaks back-and-forth with Jeremiah Yi and Dane Paulsen to a 8-7 deficit but could not come back in the end, falling 9-7.
 
In singles play, Wheaton claimed five of the six positions in straight sets, while Adam Winters turned in the lone victory for the Cardinals, rebounding from a 6-1 first-set loss to take down Josh Cheng, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 5 position.
 
North Central (10-7, 2-4 CCIW) closes out the regular season on Thursday, Apr. 27, traveling to Carthage College with matches slated for 4 p.m. at the Smeds Tennis Center.
