RACINE, Wis. (Apr. 27, 2017) – Closing out the regular season portion of the schedule, the North Central College men's tennis team found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-2 decision on Thursday against Carthage College at the Racine Tennis Club.
Beginning the afternoon with doubles play, the Cardinal duo of
Connor Sass and
Tyler Bussell clawed back from a 6-5 hole to fight out a 9-8 (7-0) win over Matt Curry and Fordy Leipold at the No. 3 position to avoid the sweep and take a 2-1 deficit into singles play.
Carthage (11-12, 4-3 CCIW) was victorious in the first five singles positions, each in straight sets, while Bussell turned in the lone victory, taking down Leipold, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
North Central (10-8, 2-5 CCIW) will take part in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships beginning on Thursday, May 4, hosted by Augustana College at the Lower Campus Courts.
