AURORA, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2017) – Clinching their first win of the young 2017 season, the North Central College women's tennis team shut out Aurora University, 9-0 on Friday afternoon in dominating fashion at the Washington Middle School Courts.
Beginning the day with doubles play, the Cardinal duo of
Diana Barcelata and
Morgan House fought out a tough 8-5 win at the No. 1 position over Micaela Mascha and Mackenzie Smith, while
Reagan Scherpe and
Tiffany Smolik teamed up to defeat Celia Konen and Alex Hultine, 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3,
Katie Legorreta and
Rena Kawakami made quick work of Sami Hultine and Kyleigh Dowell, shutting out the pair 8-0.
North Central (1-2) carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Barcelata cruised past Mascha, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while House took care of Smith, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, Legorreta was victorious over Konen, 6-2, 6-1, while Scherpe won her match over Sami Hultine, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
Smolik and
Mackenzie Ferrell each won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, taking down Alex Hultine and Dowell.
North Central returns to the court on Thursday, Sept. 14, continuing non-conference action against Judson University with matches slated for 3:30 p.m. at the NCC Tennis Courts.
