HUDDLESTON, Va. (Oct. 20, 2018) – The North Central College women's triathlon team took full advantage of its final opportunity to race during the regular season at the USA Triathlon East Region Qualifier on Saturday, placing first among the Division III teams in attendance and clocking impressive personal achievements.
Katherine Canfield led North Central out of the 750-meter swim with a time of nine minutes, 29 seconds, followed by
Grace Miller and
Naomi Hill not far behind. North Central continued to power through the 20-kilometer biking stage, making great time in the second transition to the five-kilometer run to come into the finish.
Canfield was the Cardinals' top finisher, completing the race with a season-best time of 1:03:56 to finish 11th overall.
Jennifer Hufnagle turned in a 19th-place finish with a time of 1:06:17, followed by
Naomi Hill in 23rd (1:07:19). Miller came in on Hill's heels in 24th (1:07:41) while
Amy Feltz finished in 55th with a time of 1:21.02.
Arizona State University won the race and was the top Division I finisher, while Queens University of Charlotte placed second overall and first among Division II teams. North Central was the top Division III team, placing fourth overall.
The Cardinals' travel to Tempe, Ariz. for the 2018 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship on Sunday, Nov. 4. This year's championship, hosted by Arizona State University, is slated for 7 a.m. (MT).
