JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Dec. 8, 2018) – The North Central College women's swimming & diving team showcased their continued growth at the Illinois College Quad Saturday, their final competition before a month-long hiatus.
For the second consecutive week, the Cardinals opened their meet by taking first-place in the 200-yard medley. This time, it was the team of Kate Canfield,
Marissa Hoppe,
Beth Ryan and
Amelia Woods finished in a time of 1:56. The 'B' team of
Amy Feltz,
Maya Bidegaray,
Samantha Kruzel and
Savannah Catalano nabbed fourth-place (2:12.72).
As they've done all season long, those Cardinal swimmers excelled in individual events. Winning every event she raced in the, Ryan owned the meet's fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (57.86) — her first time competing in that event this season. North Central took five of the top seven places in that event, with Feltz taking second (59.38), Kruzel in third (101.27), Catalano in sixth (1:07.27, tying with Bidegaray. Ryan also added a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly, notching a season best time of 27.52. Feltz added a second-place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.17).
The 100-yard breaststroke saw Hoppe take second in a time of 1:14.57, just ahead of Canfield in third (1:16.08). Hoppe responded by shattering her personal best in the 100-yard individual medley by four seconds, finishing in a time of 1:07.38 on her way to a first-place finish. Also competing in the 100-yard individual medley was Woods, who earned second place with a time of 1:08.02. She went on to win the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.77, a personal best. Canfield secured the top place in the 50-yard backstroke (28.64).
The Cardinals closed the meet with another relay victory, as the team of Feltz, Canfield, Ryan and Woods finishing in a time of 1:49.02, with the team of Hoppe, Catalano, Bidegaray and Kruzel not far behind in fourth (1:57.51).
