Feb. 10, 2018 – Rebounding from an early deficit after doubles play, the North Central College men's tennis team responded mightily winning four of the six singles positions to complete a 5-4 comeback win over Loras College late Saturday evening at Naperville Tennis Club.
Loras (1-2) came out of the gates with a surge in doubles play, claiming the first two positions each by scores of 8-3, but
Tyler Bussell and
Lucas Pindak avoided the sweep for North Central (2-2), scoring a 8-2 victory over Kevin Murphy and Ryan Scheidt at No. 3.
Beginning singles play,
Tyler Haizel evened the team score 2-2 with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Murphy at the No. 3 spot, before Bussell gave the Cardinals the lead with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Riley Michel at the No. 4 position.
Loras once again evened the team score with a win at No. 1, but
Adam Winters took back the lead in straight 6-4 sets over Sean Baldwin at No. 5, while Pindak sealed the victory for the Cardinals at the No. 6 position, cruising past Eric Zirzow, 6-2, 6-1.
North Central returns to the court on Sunday, Feb. 18 with a pair of matches at XS Tennis in Chicago, Illinois, squaring off against Illinois Institute of Technology at 9:30 a.m., followed by Monmouth College at 12:30 p.m.
