Mar. 2, 2018 – In their final match before heading south for Spring Break, the North Central College men's tennis team fought off Concordia University Wisconsin, 5-4 on Friday evening indoors at Naperville Tennis Club.
The Cardinals (5-5) took an all-important 2-1 lead after doubles play, as
Tyler Haizel and
Tyler Bussell clawed out an 8-5 win over Brad Guendel and Cole Werning at the No. 3 position, while
Victor Krueger and
Marco Salazar teamed up to defeat Gabe Binversie and Peter Kloda, 8-4 at No. 2.
The Falcons (1-6) evened the score 2-2 with a win at No. 2 singles, but Bussell took back the lead for North Central with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kloda at No. 5, while
Lucas Pindak increased the lead 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nathan Raskin at the No. 6 position.
At the No. 1 spot, Krueger earned his 50
th career win over Nolan Rademacher, 7-5, 6-1 to seal the match victory for North Central in what proved to be an important win as Concordia-Wisconsin was victorious at No. 3 and No. 4.
North Central opens their Spring Break trip on Friday, Mar. 16, squaring off against Earlham College in Orlando, Fla.
