CCIW Press Release
Apr. 17, 2018 - The North Central College men's track and field team swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week awards for Apr. 9-15, as junior distance runner
Matt Norvell and senior pole vaulter
Luke Winder have been recognized as the Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively. The CCIW announced the most recent installment of Athlete of the Week selections for the outdoor season on Tuesday.
Norvell was picked for the first such award of his collegiate career after a personal-best performance in the 5,000-meter run at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational on Thursday. His time of 14 minutes, 28.49 seconds placed him second among 96 finishers (first among collegiate entrants) and also currently ranks him first in the CCIW and fourth nationally among NCAA Division III competitors this season.
Winder, meanwhile, turned in a first-place finish in the 'B' section of the pole vault at the University of Texas Invitational on Saturday with a season-best and Division III-leading clearance of 17 feet, 8.50 inches (5.40 meters). Winder's performance was better than all entrants in the 'A' section except for world leader Renaud Lavillenie of France. Winder has won the last three Division III outdoor national titles in the pole vault.
The Cardinals have won three Athlete of the Week awards this outdoor season, as
Dhruvil Patel was named the Track Athlete of the Week on Apr. 3.
North Central will send athletes to the Bellarmine University (Kentucky) Classic and the Wheaton College Don Church Twilight Meet on Saturday.
