Dhruvil Patel has been honored with one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards for Mar. 26-Apr. 1. The CCIW announced the second installment of Athlete of the Week selections for the outdoor season on Tuesday.
Patel was selected as the conference's Track Athlete of the Week after getting his outdoor season started with a personal-best performance at the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational on Friday. He placed first out of 70 finishers in the 10,000 with a time of 29 minutes, 52.83 seconds, posting the fastest Division III time of the outdoor campaign and moving into seventh place in North Central's history in the event. Patel was followed across the line in succession by teammates
Matt Norvell,
Nolan McKenna,
Al Baldonado and
Matt Osmulski, who also own the nation's next four fastest times.
Patel is coming off an indoor season which saw him win a Division III individual national title in the 5,000-meter run as well as All-America accolades and a CCIW individual championship in the 3,000-meter run.
The Cardinals return to competition on Saturday, competing in the Wheaton College Invitational. Competition at McCully Stadium is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
