Sept. 3, 2018 – The North Central College women's triathlon team showcased its talents for a home crowd, turning in a first-place team performance and impressive individual times at the North Central College Division III Invitational early Monday morning.
Katherine Canfield led North Central after the 570-meter swim, followed closely by
Naomi Hill before taking the lead into the biking stage.
Jennifer Hufnagle and
Grace Miller worked together for the 22-kilometer bike, showing the Cardinals' strength as a team.
Transylvannia's Elizabeth Moore finished first with a time of one hour, four minutes, 4.2 seconds. North Central's top four continued to race with a team mindset in the final 5-kilometer run and claimed the next three spots only three minutes apart with Hill placing second (1:07:54.7), Canfield in third (1:08:51.1), and Hufnagle in fourth with a time of 1:09:28.5. Miller, battling back from an injury this past summer, completed the race in 1:10:53.9 for a sixth place finish.
Amy Feltz placed 13th with a time 1:17:27.3 and freshman
Amelia Woods completed her first collegiate triathlon in 1:31:27.7.
The Cardinals' next race will be the first qualifying events for this year's national championship, traveling to Watauga, Tenn. for the USA Triathlon Central Region Qualifier. Race time has yet to be announced.
