Jan. 22, 2019 - The authors of personal-best performances which rank among the NCAA Division III national leaders in their respective events, North Central College men's track and field student-athletes Gabe Pommier and Izaiah Webb have been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athletes of the Week for Jan. 14-20, each doing so for the first time in their collegiate career.

Pommier was tabbed as the conference's Running Event Athlete of the Week after posting a personal best of more than 14 seconds in the mile run in Friday's Snow Day Dual at Al B. Carius Track, won by the Cardinals over the University of Saint Francis, 99-54. Pommier's winning time of four minutes, 13.93 seconds currently ranks third-fastest in the CCIW and seventh-fastest among Division III athletes nationwide. Pommier also sits fifth in the CCIW and 13th in Division III in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:01.62 recorded Jan. 11 in the Cardinal Opener.

Webb was picked as the CCIW Field Event Athlete of the Week following a personal-best mark of 46 feet, 3.25 inches in the triple jump, which placed him second in the meet and currently ranks him first in the conference and 12th in the nation. Webb also placed fourth in the pole vault Friday with a clearance of 14'1.75". Webb is tied for third in the CCIW and 23rd nationally in the pole vault with a height of 14'9.50" achieved at the Cardinal Opener.

North Central has swept the CCIW's weekly awards in each of the first two weeks of the 2019 indoor season. Distance runner Dhruvil Patel and pole vaulter Luke Winder were so honored on Jan. 15.

The Cardinals travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the Squig Converse Invitational on Friday. Competition at Kachel Fieldhouse is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
