JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 2, 2019) - Coming off of a solid performance in their first tournament of the season, the North Central College women's wrestling team posted two first-place finishers in the Dr. Bob Kellogg Open, hosted by MacMurray College.
Junior
Amanda Martinez began her day by defeating Katelynn Gunderson of Lakeland College via tech fall, 11-0. In the semifinal matchup, she pinned her McKendree University opponent to move into the championship match for the 130-pound weight class. There she faced Jocelyn Murphy (Missouri Valley College) and came away victorious to earn her first individual championship of the season.
Following a first-place finish a week ago,
Yelena Makoyed pinned Lacey Jung-Michonski of Adrian College to move to the semifinal matchup. She then won by tech fall over her Lindenwood University opponent to advance to the 170-pound first-place match. In her final match of the day, Makoyed conquered Zanaya Shropshire of MacMurray College to earn her second first-place finish of the season.
In the 155-pound weight class,
Malea Palahniuk advanced to the quarterfinal by defeating Starlyn White of Missouri Valley. She then earned her second pin of the day by taking down her MacMurray opponent. After falling in the semifinal, Palahnuik rattled off two more victories to earn herself third-place for the day.
Angelina Graff (109),
Kim Nunez (155), and
Angelina Kirkpatrick (191) all earned fifth-place finishes on the day.
North Central will compete in their first dual of the season on Tuesday by hosting MacMurray. The meet is set to begin at 6:00 pm in Gregory Arena.
