CCIW Press Release
Apr. 17, 2019 – For the second time this season, North Central College's
Andy Hinch has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, released by the conference on Wednesday.
Hinch went 4-0 over the week to lead the Cardinals to a pair of CCIW wins over Carthage College and Carroll University. With the match against Carthage tied 4-4 with just the No. 5 singles position remaining, Hinch cruised to a 6-1 first-set win over Matt Krzewinski but faltered in the second set 6-4. With the match coming down to the final game, Hinch regained composure to mount a 6-4 comeback win in the third to defeat Carthage for the first time since 2011.
The following afternoon, Hinch rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Carroll's Ryan Strupp at the No. 5 spot. The freshman also teamed up with
Victor Krueger to go 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles position, defeating Carthage's Tripp Schulte and John Nykyforuk, 8-3 and Carroll's Chayce Roecker and Joseph Harrison, 8-4.
Hinch also earned the weekly award from the conference on Feb. 6, while North Central has been represented in each of the last four seasons.
The Cardinals look to improve to 4-1 in CCIW play this afternoon, Apr. 17, taking on Elmhurst College inside Vaughan Tennis Center in Aurora, Illinois with matches scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
