CCIW Press Release
Sept. 11, 2019 – For the second-straight week, a North Central College women's tennis player was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week, as
Hannah Hougland earned the weekly award after leading the Cardinals to a 3-0 start to conference play.
Pushing her season record to an unblemished 5-0 in both singles and doubles play, Hougland has not dropped a set in singles play so far this season while playing at the No. 1 position in the Cardinal lineup. Last week, Hougland went 3-0 in singles play, downing Carroll University's Grace Krueger, 7-5, 6-3 on Sept. 4, before rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rebecca Rochacz of Illinois Wesleyan University on Sept. 6. Hougland then closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Millikin University's Morgan Bettner on Sept. 7.
Teaming up with
Alaina Kanthaphixay, who earned CCIW Player of the Week on Sept. 4, the pair earned a 8-2 win over Carroll's Krueger and Ashley LaBelle at No. 1 doubles, before cruising to a pair of 8-1 wins against Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin.
North Central (5-0, 3-0 CCIW) continues a stretch of five-straight conference matches on Thursday, Sept. 12, hosting their toughest test of the season thus far in defending CCIW Champion Augustana College with matches scheduled for 3 p.m. at Nike Park.
