Nov. 10, 2020 – Forced to suspend its chase for a 47th consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) championship, the North Central College men's cross country team was able to claim a virtual conference title this fall, coasting to a 55-point victory in the CCIW Commissioner's Championship, which saw teams compete at the 5,000-meter distance on their own campuses and submit their results.
The Cardinals placed four individuals at the front of the 118-competitor field and won the meet with a score of 20 points, well ahead of runner-up Augustana College's total of 75. Millikin University finished third (91), followed by Wheaton College (103), Carroll University (129), Carthage College (148) and Illinois Wesleyan University (154).
North Central's
Gabe Pommier won the individual championship with a time of 14 minutes, 52.6 seconds and was followed closely by teammate
Matt Boelke in second place (14:54.1), while
Matt Jett finished third (15:05.7) and
Zach Chapman placed fourth (15:06.9).
Max Svienty rounded out the Cardinals' scoring by placing 10th in 15:18.0 and was named the meet's Most Outstanding Freshman. All five harriers received First Team All-Conference accolades.
Earning Second Team All-Conference honors were
Connor Riss in 11th place (15:28.3),
Dolan Harris in 15th (15:30.2) and
