Feb. 18, 2020 - For the fourth straight week, the North Central College men's track and field team is recognized with one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week awards, as distance runner Matt Osmulski has been named the conference's Track Athlete of the Week. The CCIW announced this week's winners on Tuesday.
Osmulski was recognized for his personal-record performance in the 5,000-meter run in Friday's Pat Heenan Invitational at Al B. Carius Track, where the Cardinals placed first out of nine teams. Osmulski won the event in a time of 14 minutes, 34.93 seconds which ranks him second-fastest in the CCIW (to teammate Gabe Pommier) and ninth-fastest nationally among NCAA Division III competitors.
The award is the fifth won by a North Central athlete this season. Sprinter Michael Stanley was recognized as the conference's Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 28 and Feb. 11, while jumper Kendall Johnson (Jan. 28) and jumper/pole vaulter Izaiah Webb (Feb. 4) have each been named as the Field Athlete of the Week.
Stanley also was named the Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 28, when he and jumper Kendall Johnson swept both awards for the Cardinals, pole vaulter/jumper Izaiah Webb was selected as the CCIW's Field Athlete of the Week last week.
