Mar. 11, 2020 – In the first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Player of the Week release of the Spring season, North Central College's
Sydney Sawyer earned the distinction this week after helping guide the Cardinals to 4-1 record over its Spring trip.
In her first week of competition as a member of the team after transferring before Spring semester, Sawyer finished the week 8-1 overall with her lone loss coming in doubles play to NCAA Division I opponent Hampton University.
Sawyer finished a perfect 5-0 in singles play, winning four of the five matches in straight sets, while earning the team's only victory against Hampton, clawing out a hard fought 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 win over Laura Peralta at No. 3 singles.
This marks the third CCIW Player of the Week honor this season for North Central, as
Alaina Kanthaphixay and
Hannah Hougland each earned the award on Sept. 4 and Sept. 11, respectively.
North Central (12-3) returns to the court on Saturday, Mar. 14, taking on Purdue University Northwest at Park Forest Tennis & Health Club in Park Forest, Illinois with matches slated for 4:30 p.m.
