July 27, 2020 - On Monday, July 27, the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced that, after a unanimous vote by its Council of Presidents, it will postpone all fall conference competition and championships in response to the ongoing public health threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, North Central College will not participate in intercollegiate athletics in the sports of cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, triathlon or women's volleyball this fall.
While this news is obviously disappointing, the North Central College athletic department remains resolute in its commitment to provide Cardinal student-athletes the best competitive and training environment possible within the circumstances. The coaching staffs of the affected sports will be meeting with their teams soon to share details about what that will entail.

The Council of Presidents has charged the CCIW staff with developing competition opportunities for the sports of cross country, football, soccer and volleyball in the spring, while maintaining conference competition for all spring sports including golf and tennis. USA Triathlon (USAT), which administers the National Collegiate Championship for women's triathlon, is evaluating options for a possible spring season.
The North Central athletic department has been working throughout the summer to establish appropriate health and safety protocols for the student-athletes' safe transition to campus, practice and competition. Student-athletes in the affected sports will not be charged with using a season of participation, as a blanket waiver has already been approved by the Division III Administrative Committee.
