Oct. 20, 2021 - Earning her second career College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week award, Kaeli Smashey of the North Central College women's tennis team posted wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles in the Cardinals 8-1 win over Carthage College on Saturday afternoon.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native improves to 10-1 on the fall, including a perfect 8-0 conference record in singles play. She leads the CCIW in singles wins and wins at the No. 1 position. Paired up with Natalie Bassett in doubles play, the duo finishes the fall regular season with a 7-1 CCIW record. 

Smashey is one of 12 women's tennis players in program history to earn a CCIW weekly honor and just the sixth to win the award multiple times. Alaina Kanthaphixay netted the Cardinals' first CCIW Player of the Week honor this season as she collected the award on Sept. 22nd.

There were three Co-Player of the Week honorees from the conference this week as Emily Markus of Millikin and Abygale Agn of Wheaton also were recognized.

North Central tied a program record for most wins in a fall season with 11 and pushed their CCIW winning streak to 16. The Cardinals have clinched the No. 1 seed in the CCIW Fall Championships, which begin on Thursday. They will face North Park at 9 AM inside of the Centre Court Racquet Club in Hanover Park.
