Apr. 28, 2021 –  North Central College men's tennis player Ramon Vilarroig Martinez was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week on Wednesday, the second such award for the program this season.

Vilarroig Martinez went 6-0 over North Central's 3-0 week, leading the Cardinals to their first No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCIW Tournament for the first time in program history.

Teaming up with Javier Suarez Balsera, the duo opened the week with a 8-1 win over Elmhurst University's Brandon Fulmer and Florin Stan on Apr. 20, before scoring a 8-3 victory over Carthage College's Cooper Ferruzzi and Kevin Dunn on Apr. 23.  The pair then teamed up to shut out Carroll University's Luke Barter and Ryan Strupp on Apr. 24.

Vilarroig Martinez also went 3-0 in singles play last week, starting with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Elmhurst's Ben Cavka at the No. 3 position.  Following with a pair of wins at the No. 2 position, Vilarroig Martinez scored a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Carthage's Nicolas Welker, before ending the week with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win over Carroll's Brian Trefliek.

Marking the second weekly conference award for North Central, Suarez Balsera earned the award on Apr. 7.

Earning the No. 1 seed in the CCIW Tournament beginning on May 4, the Cardinals will host on the No. 8 seed in Carroll University with location and match time still TBA.
