Apr. 28, 2021 – For the second time this season, a North Central College women's tennis player was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), as
Mikayla Edquiban earned the weekly award released by the conference on Wednesday.
Edquiban went a perfect 4-0 last week to lead the Cardinals to a pair of victories and finish off the CCIW regular season 8-0. Edquiban teamed up with
Sydney Sawyer to score a pair of doubles wins at the No. 2 position last week, starting with a 8-0 shutout of Carthage College's Faelan O'Shaughnessy and Sierra Sonnemaker, on Apr. 23, before taking down Carroll University's Lora Leach and Carolyn Merkatoris, 8-2 the following afternoon.
In singles play during the week, Edquiban rolled to a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutouts, defeating Sonnemaker at the No. 3 position, before cruising past Merkatoris at the No. 4 position.
Edquiban joins
Kaeli Smashey on the CCIW Player of the Week list this season, as Smashey earned the award on Apr. 14.
North Central rolled to a 5-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan University on Tuesday in the CCIW Automatic Qualifier Tournament, advancing to Friday's semi-finals where the top-seeded Cardinals square off with fourth-seeded Millikin University at 12 p.m. at Smeds Tennis Center on the campus of host Carthage College.
