May 1st, 2021 - After a slow three quarters of play, the Cardinals put together a strong 4th quarter as they rallied back from being down 5 goals to start off the final quarter to beat Elmhurst University (10-5, 3-3) 14-13. The win marks the most wins in program history, the best regular season win percentage, and the program's first win over Elmhurst University.
Having trouble finding any type of rhythm in the first half the Cardinals were lucky to only be down four goals heading into halftime. First half goals were scored by Tom Eberhardt (3) and Riley Bachinski (2). Eberhardt led the game with six goals on the afternoon, while Bachinski scored five. The two helped keep the Cardinals in it, as they mounted a comeback in the second half.
After the three quarters of play the Cardinals saw themselves down by 5 goals and with 14:22 left in the game Scott Allgood helped spark the offense with his first goal of the game and within a matter of 3 minutes teammates Eberhardt and Moran helped cut the Bluejay lead to two with a little over 10 minutes left in the game.
Scoring a minute apart from each other at 6:30, Moran would score again to make it 12-11 Elmhurst and then Bachinski would tie the game up with 5:30 left. The Bluejays would take the lead back shortly after, but Bachinski came back to tie the game up again and with 1:27 Eberhardt scored the game-winning goal to put the Cardinals past the Bluejays.
Jacob Ray led the game with nine ground balls and Steven Faux, Conner Holderness, and Evan Lilga all had four. Jake Allgood came up big when it mattered the most as he recorded 3 huge saves in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday night as they will host the semi-final game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) lacrosse tournament.
