June 11, 2021Â - North Central College women's triathlon student-athletes
Natalie Grolmes,
Naomi Hill and
Nicole Huff have been awarded Individual Scholar All-American honors by the College Triathlon Coaches Association (CTCA) and USA Triathlon. The award is presented to student-athletes who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the spring 2021 semester.
Hill is a three-time Scholar All-America honoree, having also earned the distinction in 2017 and 2018 when she helped lead the Cardinals to victory at USA Triathlon Division III national championships. Also a Division III All-America honoree in 2017, Hill was named the recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in March. Hill is the first North Central student-athlete to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship since 2015.
Huff is now a two-time Scholar All-America selection, also receiving the honor in 2019 when she placed 12th at the national championship as the Cardinals won their third straight Division III title. Huff placed first individually at the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge in Florida this past March. Grolmes, in her first season with the North Central program, placed 48th at the Draft Legal Challenge.
The NCAA designated triathlon as an Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, giving the sport a 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability at the NCAA level. A total of 37 colleges and universities around the nation currently sponsor the sport at the varsity level.
The Cardinals have received nine Scholar All-America awards since the program's introduction in 2017. North Central will pursue its fourth consecutive Division III National Championship this fall, with the season's schedule to be announced soon.
