CCIW Press Release
Sept. 20, 2021 - North Central College cornerback Jake Beesley has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Football Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 18, earning the distinction for the second time in his collegiate career.
Beesley was honored for his contributions to Saturday's 20-7 victory at No. 5-ranked Wheaton College, which gave the Cardinals possession of the Little Brass Bell for the first time since 2016. Beesley recorded three solo tackles and a career-high five pass breakups, moving him into seventh in North Central history in career pass breakups (24) and eighth in career passes defended (31). After yielding a touchdown on the game's first possession, the Cardinals shut Wheaton out the rest of the way.
Beesley is the second North Central player to earn a weekly award from the CCIW. Running back Ethan Greenfield was recognized as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week following the Cardinals' 64-7 season-opening win over Aurora.
Ranked No. 1 by D3football.com for the first time ever in the regular season, the Cardinals host Augustana College on Saturday. Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Click HERE for live coverage options.
