Alaina Kanthaphixay of the North Central College women's tennis team was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances against Wheaton College and Millikin University this past week.
This marks the third CCIW weekly honor of her career and is the first Cardinal of the season to earn the award. In her first match of the week, the Streamwood native propelled North Central to an 8-1 victory over Wheaton. In doubles play, she teamed up with
Hannah Hougland to take down the Thunder's No. 1 doubles team 8-6 before beating Alexandra Wachs 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles spot. In the Cardinals second match of the week, Kanthaphixay earned two more wins against Millikin to post a 4-0 record for the week.
Kanthaphixay, along with Hougland, recently broke the program record for career wins in doubles play as they each have recorded 55 wins since the start of the 2018-19 season. The duo is 54-19 all-time as partners. This season, they have started 6-0 at the No. 1 doubles position while leading the Cardinals to a 7-0 overall record. They each have also eclipsed the 100-win mark in their careers.
The Cardinals head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships which begin on Friday. The three-day event will take place at Stowe Stadium.
