Jan. 15, 2022 - The North Central College men's track and field team is off and running in its 2022 campaign after winning five events in its own Cardinal Opener. The unscored six-team meet was contested Saturday at Al B. Carius Track.
Highlighting the Cardinals' efforts was the performance of Jamauri Spivery in the 60-meter dash. Spivery, already the North Central varsity record holder in the event coming into the season (6.99 seconds), surged to victory Saturday in a new program-record time of 6.98. Spivery ranks second among College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) competitors and 31st nationally in the event in the early stages of the season.
North Central also got first-place finishes from Brian Armstrong in the long jump (20'5.75", 6.24 meters), Tyler Piron in the 400-meter dash (53.15) and the distance medley relay team of Nathan Halbrader, Cameron Benes, Juan Castro and James McGlashon (10:44.08). Jeff Glatz and Chase Konstanzer placed first (15:57.26) and second (16:31.22), respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.
Nick Janca cleared 6'4" (1.93m) to place second in the high jump, and Gavin Carr did the same in the pole vault with a height of 14'5.50" (4.41m) and Braden Nicholson crossed the line third in the 3,000-meter run (8:31.88).
The Cardinals host the Snow Day Invitational Friday at 4:00 p.m. Spectators will not be permitted but live video coverage and event-by-event results will be available HERE.
