Elmhurst, Ill. (Jan. 15, 2022) - After being ranked No. 2 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Tournament Rankings yesterday, the North Central College men's wrestling team took home third place while ten wrestlers placed in their respective weight class at the Al Hanke Invitational today. 

University of Wisconsin Stevens Point claimed first place earning 122 points followed by Lincoln College in second with 113 points. The Cardinals came in third with 103 points followed by Harper College in fourth with 96 points and Wheaton College in fifth with 85 points. 

In the 125-pound weight class, Justin Brown started off the day with a pin over Seth Padavic of Lincoln College before defeating Luca Padavic in overtime 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Brown took on Brendan Johnston of Wheaton College in the semifinal match where he would fall by a 10-3 decision putting him in the third place match against Jake Jozwiak of Lincoln College. Brown would fall to Jozwiak taking home fourth place. 

In the 141-pound weight class, Javen Estrada pinned his first opponent, Jack Hale of Lincoln College before pinning Luke Hill of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) moving him into the quarterfinal match. Estrada would take on Michael Smith of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), he would pin Smith before pinning Ryan Fleck of the University of Chicago in the semifinals match. Estrada would finish the day by pinning Ethan Renager of Wheaton College securing first place. Joshua Dorr would take home sixth place in the 141-pound weight class. Dorr took down Jager Kwiatkowski of Henry Ford by a 13-5 major decision before defeating Austin Vincent of Concordia University 7-2. In the quarterfinal match, Dorr would fall to Renager 5-3 before defeating Devaughn Blevins of Lincoln College by a 16-0 technical fall. In the consolation semifinals, Dorr defeated Vincent Menozzi of the University of Chicago 9-6. Dorr took home sixth place after falling to Drew Nash of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW) in the fifth place match. 

Charles Dojan received a bye in the first round of the 149-pound weight class before pinning Bryce Status of UWSP in the second round. Dojan would defeat Gianni Rago of MSOE to earn his second pin of the day and put him into the semifinals. Dojan would take on Elijah Kidder of Henry Ford in the semifinals and earn his third pin of the day putting him in the championship match. Dojan would place second after falling to Bryce Claypool in the championship match. 

In the 157-pound weight class, Jamaal Salary would receive a bye in the first round before defeating Cameron Jacobs of Harper College by a 7-1 decision. Salary would fall to Jaden Morga of Elmhurst University 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Salary would bounce back and pin teammate Nolan Flores before he defeated Isaiah Mohmen of UWW 8-7 in the consolation semifinals. Salary took home sixth place after falling to Jeff Nugent of Elmhurst University in the fifth place match. Tanner Willett took home seventh place in the 157-pound weight class. Willett would fall in his first match to Luke Smiley of UWSP before receiving a bye in the consolation first round. Willett would bounce back from his first round loss by pinning Ben Black of Wheaton College before pinning Alex Gundrum of UWSP. In the consolation fourth round, Willett defeated teammate Collin Mojena, earning his third pin of the day. Willett would fall to Nugent in the consolation semifinals before defeating Mohmend of UWW by a 14-4 major decision. 

In the 184-pound weight class, Jack Hominac started off the day with a 3-2 decision win over Diante Taylor of Henry Ford in the first round. Hominac would fall in the quarterfinals to Jerry Lipke before defeating teammate Rickie Clark by a 10-1 major decision in the consolation second round. Hominac would pick up his third win of the day by pinning opponent Scott Anderson of Elmhurst University putting him into the fifth place match. Hominac would take home sixth place after falling to Thomas Culp of Lincoln College by a 7-2 decision. 

Elijah Brockie took home fifth place in the 197-pound weight class. Brockie pinned David Ortiz of Elmhurst University in the first round before he fell in the quarterfinals to Demarco Lee of Harper College by a 12-2 major decision. Brockie would bounce back by pinning Isaac Albor of Morton College in the consolation second round before defeating Blake Flach of UWSP by a 9-2 decision putting him into the fifth place match. Brockie would end the day with a 5-4 decision win over Jack Horihan of MSOE securing a fifth place finish. 

Jason Nako took home first place in the 285-pound weight class. Nako defeated Noah Nieberle of MSOE by a 12-2 major decision in the first round before he pinned Anthony Braun of Elmhurst University. Nako would pin Farouk Shaaban of Harper College in the quarterfinal match beforing defeating Ben Gunderson of UWSP by a 10-4 decision putting him in the championship match. Nako would end the day with a 3-2 decision win over Jordan Williams of Harper College. Isaac Banker took home sixth place in the 285-pound weight class. Banker received a bye in the first round before pinning Jarell Carey of Concordia University in the second round. Banker would fall to Gunderson of UWSP in the quarterfinal match but would bounce back in the consolation fourth round by defeating teammate Max Ness by a 4-0 decision. Banker pinned Shaaban in the consolation semifinals before falling to Roberto Pena 8-7. 

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday, Jan. 21st as they host Elmhurst University at 7 pm and No. 12 Millikin University at 8:30 pm inside Gregory Arena.
