Jan. 21, 2022 - The North Central College men's track and field team proved itself the class of the Snow Day Invitational Friday, winning seven of 15 events and prevailing atop the six-team field at Al B. Carius Track.
The Cardinals scored 143.5 points to finish 19 points ahead of runner-up Carthage College, while Trine University (Indiana) placed third with 97.50.
For the second straight meet, sprinter Jamauri Spivery lowered his North Central varsity record in the 60-meter dash from 6.98 seconds to 6.87, bringing Spivery into a tie for seventh-fastest nationally among NCAA Division III competitors.
The Cardinals claimed the top three spots in two of three distance races. Connor Riss won the mile (4:26.39), leading Nathan Halbrader (4:27.12) and Lucas Hoffman (4:31.31) to the finish line, while Braden Nicholson took first in the 5,000-meter run (14:49.47) ahead of Julian Higueros (14:56.75) and Max Svienty (15:35.65).
Juan Castro won the 800-meter run (1:59.45) and Ishaan Patel prevailed in the 3,000-meter run (8:57.51), while Nick Janca took first in the high jump (6'6.75") and Gavin Carr cleared 14'11.50" to win the pole vault. Trevor Goodwin placed second in the triple jump (42'11") and Riley Hughes came in third in the shot put (48'6.25").
The Cardinals travel to Gately Indoor Track in Chicago Jan. 29 for the Aurora Grand Prix, hosted by Aurora University.
