DUBUQUE, Iowa (Jan. 8, 2022) – The North Central College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Dubuque, Iowa for their first meet of the new year going head to head with the Loras Duhawks at San Jose Pool on Saturday.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Emily Miehlke (34.91), Abigail Anderson (34.90), Scarlett Schuth (29.85), and Taylin Lemke (28.15)  turned in a second-place finish with a time of 2:07.81 to start off the day.

On the men's side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ben Laurich (29.93), Devin Sheehan (36.30), Gavin Sheehan (28.18), and Maciej Sporna (25.08) also came in second in a time of 1:59.49. 

Lemke turned in a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:23.31) and in the 500-yard freestyle (6:22.91). Also turning in second-place finishes on the women's side were teammates Anderson in the 200-yard individual medley (2:40.30) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.43) and Miehlke in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.28).

Laurich finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 13:02.25 and followed it up with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:15.94). Sporna accomplished a season's best time of 25.52 in the 50-yard freestyle and came back with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (57.38). Nicholas Domschke took second in the one-meter dive and secured a season's best time of 1:02.15 in the 100-yard freestyle where he placed third. Gavin Sheehan had his share of second-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.79).

The Cardinals fell to the Duhawks 131-34 on the women's side and 146-42 on the men's.
