Oct. 11, 2022 - Ahead of its matchup against the fifth-ranked North Park University Vikings, the North Central College men's soccer team found themselves ranked in both the United Soccer Coaches' and the D3Soccer.com Top 25 polls while being ranked fourth in Region VIII, both organizations announced Tuesday.
The Cardinals (10-0-3, 3-0-0 CCIW) picked up two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) wins this past week, taking down Wheaton College 3-1 on Wednesday and Carthage College 3-1 on Saturday. The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 30-8 this season, North Central is currently ranked second in the CCIW for score average (2.250) while leading the conference in goals against (8).
United Soccer Coaches' announced their fifth poll of the 2022 season and the University of Chicago has claimed the top spot for the fourth consecutive week with a 12-0-0 record. Messiah University is in second with an 11-0-1 record followed by Kenyon College in third, Stevens Institute of Technology in fourth and Johns Hopkins rounding out the top five. Conference rival, North Park University was ranked sixth for the second straight week after falling to No. 1 Chicago on Sept. 28. The Cardinals infiltrated this week's rankings, coming in at No. 24 after extending their unbeaten streak to 13 games with wins over Wheaton and Carthage.
D3Soccer.com released their fourth installment of the Top 25 this week and the University of Chicago claimed the top spot once again. Messiah followed in second with Kenyon in third, Stevens Institute of technology in fourth and North Park University in fifth. North Central received votes in each poll that the organization has released but finally cracked the top 25 this week, coming in at No. 25.
The top four in the United Soccer Coaches' Region VIII rankings remained the same as the University of Chicago claimed the top spot followed by North Park University in second, Calvin University in third and the Cardinals in fourth. Webster University jumped up one spot to No. 5 this week while Milwaukee School of Engineering fell to No. 6. Dominican University holds steady in seventh while Aurora University rounds out the top eight.
The Cardinals welcome No. 5 North Park University Wednesday night for a top 25 matchup inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium at 7:30 pm.
