ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Oct. 15, 2022) – The North Central College men's cross country team secured a second-place finish at the Augustana College Invitational. The Cardinals scored 69 points in the 27 team field that featured nine nationally-ranked institutions.
Connor Riss was back in his familiar position as the first Cardinal across the finish line placing 2nd overall with a time of 23 minutes and 49.2 seconds, just 1.7 of a second behind No. 1 ranked Wartburg College's, Christopher Collet.
Max Svienty (23:53.1) wasn't far behind, placing 6th overall. Braden Nicholson (24:02.7) and Drew Guimond (24:26.2) were the next Cardinals to finish the race placing 8th and 25th. Julian Higueros (24:32.5) came in 33rd to round out the top-5 Cardinal finishers.
No. 1 ranked Pomona-Pitzer was unsurprisingly the top finisher of the meet with 48 points, respectively. No. 4 ranked North Central with a jump for second with 69 points, leaving No. 3 Wartburg in third with 84 points, No. 12 ranked Washington (Mo.) in fourth with 130 points, and No. 19 ranked Otterbein in fifth with 149 points. The remaining ranked institutions, No. 24 Stout placed sixth with 162 points, No. 20 UC Santa Cruz placed seventh with 187 points, No. 27 University of Chicago placed eighth with 247 points, No. 35 Calvin placed ninth with 257 points, and No. 32 UW-EAU Claire placed tenth with 291 points.
The Cardinals' next competition will be the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Conference Championship on Oct. 29 on the familiar course of St. James Farm. This year's championship will be hosted by Elmhurst University.
