Men’s Soccer Climbs in National Rankings

Oct. 18, 2022 - The North Central College men's soccer team jumped up five spots to No. 18 in the D3Soccer.com Top 25 while moving up one spot to No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25, both organizations announced Tuesday. 

The Cardinals (11-0-4, 4-0-1 CCIW) battled against No. 5 North Park University on Wednesday, Oct. 12 as the top two teams in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) drew a 2-2 tie. The Cardinals got back into the win column Saturday as they scored three second half goals to take down the Carroll University Pioneers' 3-2 inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. North Central has outscored their opponents 35-12 this season en route to a 15 game unbeaten streak which ties the single season program record set by the 2021 Cardinal squad. 

This is the fifth installment of the D3Soccer.com National Top 25 and the Cardinals enter this week at No. 18. The University of Chicago claimed the top spot for the fifth consecutive week as they hold a 14-0-0 record. Messiah University follows Chicago in second while Kenyon College was ranked third, Stevens Institute of Technology in fourth and Johns Hopkins University rounded out the top five. CCIW rival North Park University dropped two spots this week and sit at No. 7. 

United Soccer Coaches' released their sixth regular season poll this week and the Cardinals moved up one spot to No. 23. The University of Chicago claimed the top spot for the fifth  straight week in this poll while Messiah University followed in second. Kenyon College was ranked third while Stevens Institute of Technology came in fourth and Johns Hopkins rounded out the top five once again. North Park University remained as the sixth-ranked team in this week's poll. 

The top four teams in Region VIII are holding steady as University of Chicago has claimed the top spot, followed by North Park in second, Calvin University in third and North Central in fourth. Milwaukee School of Engineering moved up one spot to fifth as Webster fell to sixth in this week's poll. Washington University (Mo.) jumped into the rankings as they were ranked seventh and Hope College rounded out the top eight. 

The Cardinals are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Decatur, Ill. for a CCIW matchup with the Millikin University Big Blue. Gametime is set for 7:30 pm inside Frank M. Lindsay Field.
