2022 All-CCIW Teams - Women's Tennis
Oct. 19, 2022 - Following a third straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship, the North Central College women's tennis team collected two First Team All-CCIW awards (
Kaeli Smashey and
Abigail Penados) and a Second Team All-CCIW Honor (
Natalie Bassett) as well head coach
Ryan Jump being named the conference's Coach of the Year for the third season in a row.
Smashey is now a three-time CCIW award winner with two conference player of the year selections. She posted a 6-2 singles record in the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 doubles record against CCIW competition this season.
Penados opens her career with a perfect 15-0 record against CCIW opponents between singles and doubles play to claim a spot on the first team. She played all matches at the No. 2 position in both singles and doubles in the fall.
Bassett also posted an unblemished singles record (7-0) at the No. 3 spot to earn second-team accolades. Playing with Smashey in all doubles matches, Bassett posted a 7-1 doubles record in the No. 1 position. She also won CCIW Player of the Week two times this season.
Jump has now led the Cardinals to 24 straight regular season CCIW victories on his way to earning a third CCIW Coach of the Year honor. Since taking over the women's program in 2017, Jump has posted an 82-37 overall record.
The Cardinals' RESPECT Award winner is Kayla McSweeney. RESPECT Award recipients have distinguished themselves as integral members of the team, their institution, and their community by upholding the values of Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Service, Pride, Excellence, Collaboration, and Trust. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
