Geneva, Ill. (Nov 12, 2022) – Under gray skies and dropping temperatures, the North Central College men's cross country team battled to a first-place team finish out of 32 teams with six of its student-athletes finishing in the top 30.

Braden Nicholson was the Cardinals' top finisher through the eight-kilometer course in second place clocking a time of 25 minutes and 6.3 seconds. Next through the line was Max Svienty with a time of 25 minutes and 16.4 seconds to secure fourth place. Connor Riss (25:17.9) and Andrew Guimond (25:18.4) finished together in 6th and 7th place. Thomas Rohr (25:34.6) and Nigel Neibel (25:36.4) also finished together in 22nd and 24th to round out the Cardinal's top-30 performances.


North Central College has led the regional rankings since week 6 and has been top five in the national rankings since week 2; therefore, they unsurprisingly claimed the regional title with a 41 point total to secure an automatic bid to the 2022 National Championship. Behind North Central was Wartburg with 55 points in second. Loras College finished in third with 112 points, the University of Chicago finished fourth with 113 points followed by Washington University in fifth with 123 points. 

North Central automatically makes the National Championship while the remaining top-five finishing teams at the Midwest Regional Championship all received at-large bids to the NCAA Division III National Championship according to the NCAA's announcement on Sunday.

The Cardinals travel to East Lansing, Mi. for the National Championship on Nov. 19. The men's race is set for 12 p.m. (ET).
