Sydney Petzinger was named CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Petzinger, a sophomore from Parsippany, N.J, posted a 7-0 record this past weekend at the Adrian College Duals and Open, taking down four ranked opponents on her way to a 109-pound title. In their dual meet against No. 7 Tiffin University, Petzinger dominated Jenavi Alekandro, the eighth-ranked wrestler in 109-pounds, defeating her by a 10-0 technical fall to help the Cardinals defeat the Dragons 49-0. Against No. 4 McKendree University, Petzinger defeated Pauline Granados, the seventh-ranked wrestler in 109-pounds, by a 4-1 decision to help the Cardinals knock off the three-time defending National Champions, 33-12.
In the Open event, Petzinger kicked off the tournament with a 10-0 technical fall win over Angel Winters of Adrian College before picking up another 10-0 technical fall win over Shaina Hyre of UW-Stevens Point. In the quarterfinals match, Petzinger defeated teammate Elizah Leonard by an 11-0 technical fall to push her into the semifinals match against Izabella Frezzo, the fifth-ranked wrestler in 109-pounds, from New Jersey City University. Petzinger would pin Frezzo to move into the championship match against teammate Kendra Ryan, the third-ranked wrestler in 116-pounds. Petzinger would finish an undefeated weekend by defeating Ryan by a narrow 4-2 decision to claim the 109-pound title.Â
