Cardinals Place Seventh at Nationals

East Lansing, Michigan. (Nov 19, 2022) – The North Central College men's cross country team has battled throughout the year and closed out the 2022 season today with a 7th-place team finish and two All-American on the awards stand at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship at Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.


Andrew Guimond maintained a constant pace throughout the one-kilometer mark. At the 6.4 kilometer mark, just under 1.5-kilometers to go, Guimond kicked it into high gears to move up 43=8 spots to 29th as he crossed the finish line. Guimond was the first Cardinal to finish and secured his third All-American cross country title. 

Connor Riss  had a hard close in his second Nationals meet , moving down 6 spots in the last 1.5-kilometers to finish 38th. Braden Nicholson (25:43.0) was the next Cardinal through the line in 46th followed by Nigel Neibel (26:07.6) in 106th. Junior James McGlashon (26:10.5) moved up 11 positions in the last 1.5 kilometers to finish 115th. Max Svienty (26:23.0) and Thomas Rohr (26:23.4) finished together in 158th and 159th.


North Central finished 7th overall with 265 points. MIT, who was switching off with Pomona-Pitzer for  No. 1 ranked team all season, took the championship title with an 82-point win. No. 5 ranked Wartburg placed second with 129 points followed by No. 20 Suny Geneseo in third with 168 points. 

The Cardinals had an exciting season with many awards. They will keep that momentum going and carry that mindset into the indoor track and field season as their team continues to compete at a high level.
